How to setup an online poker room

publication date: May 10, 2008

So you want to know how to setup your own poker room or casino, this can be a minefield but with our advice this is something that anyone can do.

There are many different ways which you can setup your own poker room. Below I have listed the possible options.

1) Premium totally self owned and controlled poker room -

With this option you will be responsible for the total setup of your online poker business from developing the software and payment processing,  you will need to employ your own staff and run your own offices. You will also need to ensure that you obtain a valid gaming license. The premium option is by far the most expensive and can cost upwards of $100 000 - $100 000 000

2) Obtain a master license for an exisiting online gaming software provider -

With this option you will be effectively purchasing a total solution including online gaming software to place on your domain, all payment processing to allow new players to make deposits and withdrawls. Each provider of master licences have slightly different options with this purchase, for example you could also purchase player support. You will generally be responsibel for the design of your website and any marketing that may be required. This option is generally cheaper than the option above but can still cost up to half a million dollars.

3) Obtain a sub licence from a master licencsee -

The options are now getting a lot cheaper, many master licencees offer a sub licencee agreement, this agreement will allow you to us the master licencees software, support, gaming licence etc, effectively you are purchasing a ready to go poker business, this is a little like becoming an affiliate to a poker room  but much more advanced, you will have your own branded version of the software which will run on the master licencees servers, you will not need to worry about customer support or anything like that, you will be responsible for all your own marketing as it is in your interest to get as many poker players as possible.

4) Contact a sub licencee and enquire about becoming an affiliate.

This is the simplest and cheapest option, you don't have to worry about obtaining a gaming licence as you will be using the master licencees, you will also not nned to worry about software, support, payment processing. Some providers also offer a site creation service. The percentages received with the sub licence affiliate deal are lower than the above but for a hassle free online poker business this is not a bad option. Costs are upwards of about $2500

This article is just a basic overview but if you would like a follow up to this article telling you where to go to obtain any of the above just let us know.
